I returned to civilization, to complete the necessary formalities. At first I went to Singapore to pick up my one-year research visa. My short stay in the city proved to be extremely pleasant, and suprisingly I found Singapore nice and I really liked it. Probably because first of all it is nothing like Jakarta. Singapore is clean, it is not easy to get lost there and most important there are so many great vegetarian and vegetarian-indian restaurants, so I loved it :). After three days, because that long it took me to get the visa, I returned to Jakarta, where I had to go through the long process of obtaining all necessary permits. I just said long process but this time it took me just 2 working days! Which is a nice change after last time. Two years ago for the same set of documents I had to wait over a month. After receiving final documents I arrived in Palangkarayi two days ago. From the airport I went straight to the immigration office, where I filled some forms and my picture was taken as well as my fingerprints. I received a document which allows me to travel and states I compleated the registration. Although the passport with the permit is not physically ready yet, the document I got is all I need to go back to the jungle. Then I went to the police where one of the officer took my fingerprints and after that I was done, I completed the process! In a total of 4 days! Compared to my previous stay when for the same set of documents I had to wait nearly six months this result is just very impressive! Anyway ir seems that it is possible to go through this process smoothly and fast. It just depends a lot on the people who are helping you. This time I was very lucky to meet competent and devoted people who made sure I will be able to go back to the forest and be there for the secod orangutan release,
We are leaving tomorrow. This time I will take the flight to Puruk Cahu and fly by helicopter from there together with orangutans, which are going to be released very soon. Yes, I am very excited :). So keep your fingers crossed for me and for the orangutans :). You can follow the release and read the stories about how orangutans are adopting to their new home here: http://goingback2dforest.wordpress.com/.
I will of course try to keep this blog updated but for obvious reasons I won't be able to publish here before I come back to the city again so, I guess, in about two months. It had a good time for the past two weeks. I really appreciated the great food, ability to get some rest and catch up with my family and friends but now is time to go back to the forest. I miss it already :)
